What are fractures?

Fractures are a common type of bone injury that occurs when a bone is cracked or broken. They can occur in various shapes and sizes, ranging from small cracks to complete breaks where the bone is separated into two or more pieces. Fractures can be caused by concussion, such as falling or a direct blow to the bone, excessive force, or underlying medical conditions like osteoporosis or cancer.

Types of Fractures

Tre are three main types of fractures: Simple fractures, Closed fractures, and Greenstick fractures.

Simple fracture is a common type of bone injury in which the bone breaks but does not penetrate the skin. It is also known as a closed fracture. This type of fracture typically occurs due to a sudden force applied to the bone, such as accidents during exercise.

Open fracture, also known as compound fractures, refers to fractures in which the broken bones pierce through the skin. In this case, the bone is exposed to the environment and is more severe than a Simple fracture since the exposed bones cause a wound.

Greenstick fracture is a type of bone fracture that is commonly seen in children. It occurs when a bone is partially broken: one side of the bone is cracked, and the other side remains intact. This type of fracture often occurs in long bones, since these areas are more pliable and elastic.
